Former Bulova chair passes away

Robert George Humphrey, former chair of Bulova Watch Co., has passed away.

Bulova Watch Co., is mourning the loss of its former chair, Robert George Humphrey.

Known as ‘Mr. Bulova’ in Canada, Humphrey started his career with the watch company as a teenager in 1945 working in the shipping department, spending the next 62 years moving up the ranks in both sales and management positions.

Humphrey retired from the company in 2007 as board chair. A life member of the Canadian Jewellers 24 Karat Club, Humphrey also led that group as its president. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Marie, as well as two daughters and a son.

“His steady hand and wise leadership guided Bulova to excel in a very competitive market,” the company said.

“Bob was a pillar in the jewellery industry. His honesty, integrity, and sense of humour earned him the friendship and admiration of all who knew him.

“He possessed great strength of character and expected no less of his family, friends, and co-workers. He achieved success through dogged determination and tireless hours of labour, which he loved.”
