The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is the latest member of the Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC).
GIA president and CEO Donna Baker said the organization shares and supports the RJC’s commitment to promoting standards for ethically produced jewellery.
“GIA’s non-profit mission is to ensure the public’s trust in gems and jewellery across the globe by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism,” Baker said.
“We are proud to be a member of RJC and look forward to working together to cultivate future generations of ethical business leaders.”
Michael Rae, the council’s chief executive officer, said GIA’s reputation makes the union a logical fit.
“GIA has established the international benchmark for grading laboratories and there is a fundamental logic for our organizations to leverage the strength of our standards and global approaches,” he said. “We can now offer GIA the opportunity to certify its business practices against the RJC system.”
RJC is an international non-profit organization that promotes responsible ethical, human rights, social, and environmental practices in a transparent and accountable manner throughout the industry. It has more than 100 members worldwide throughout the diamond and gold supply chain, trade associations, and service providers.
