The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is setting up shop in Israel later this year.
Opening sometime in the fourth quarter, the facility will include a laboratory, education and research activities, and onsite lab services providing GIA diamond grading reports and diamond dossiers. Educational seminars on diamond grading will also be available.
“We are thrilled for GIA to have an Israel facility,” said Moti Ganz, chair of the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). “The Israeli diamond industry has established itself in a leadership position in the global trade. GIA will further strengthen this position by providing opportunities for our constituents to enhance their skill and knowledge base, which will expand our talent pool within the market.”
GIA president and chief executive officer (CEO) Donna Baker hailed Israel for its place in the diamond industry.
“Israel is among the world’s most dynamic and innovative diamond centres and we are very excited to support the trade onsite through our independent laboratory, education, and research facilities,” Baker said.
More details about the facility will be announced at a later date.
