GIA warns of undisclosed diamond treatment

SB_bigstock-Diamond-On-Blac[1]About 500 colourless to near-colourless diamonds subjected to a mystery treatment are circulating in the diamond pipeline.

Gemological Institute of America (GIA) says the treatment appears to mask the body colour of a diamond, temporarily improving its colour by up to three grades. The diamonds were primarily submitted to GIA’s grading laboratory in Ramat Gan, Israel.

GIA says it has terminated client agreements with the companies that submitted the diamonds. In addition to notifying appropriate trade bodies, the institute has published the names of the companies on its website, along with the reports. Click here[2] for a complete list.

Anyone who has purchased or has access to any of these diamonds is asked to submit them to any GIA lab for a no-cost, expedited review.
