Government to inspect scales

Jewellers making cash-for-gold transactions may get a visit from Measurement Canada (MC), which is conducting an inspection of scales.

According to Jewellers Vigilance Canada (JVC), scales used in the precious metals and gemstones trade sector will come under the microscope. The goal is to verify the scales being used are approved for their intended purpose, as well as inspected and certified. MC is also looking to ensure traders are aware of their legal obligations.

For security reasons, inspectors will carry identification documents if required to enter a facility.
