Canadian brand HERA Designs made its runway debut at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, partnering with Carmen Marc Valvo on his Spring 2013 collection.

Models in cocktail dresses, swimwear, and sleek ready-to-wear styles slipped on limited-edition cuffs featuring oxidized sterling silver, onyx, and coral composite designed by Hera Arkarakas.

This is the first time the jewellery veteran has participated at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, one of four similar events held around the world.

“It was an honour to partner with the one and only Carmen Marc Valvo,” Arkarakas tells Jewellery Business.  “I am thrilled to have participated in a runway show in New York on the heels of my collection’s official U.S. debut. Like Carmen, I design to make women look and feel beautiful. My jewellery, which is meant to be worn every day, can also be dressed up and glamorous. Showing at Fashion Week and working with such an esteemed designer was the perfect platform to illustrate that concept, and I am grateful for the opportunity.”

Born into a family of jewellery craftsmen, Arkarakas began designing as a teenager and was soon remodelling and redesigning pieces for private clients by special request. In 1980, Arkarakas and her husband, Varuj, established Master Design, an operating division of the Martin Ross Group. After cancer took Varuj’s life in 2009, Arkarakas launched her namesake brand, along with her son, Aren Arkarakas of Nouvo Mode.
