Hera Jewellery pays it forward

hera-mainHera Jewellery is donating 10 per cent of its online sales during December to the Canada Women’s Foundation.

The charity works to empower women and girls to move out of violence and poverty and into confidence, an initiative that resonates with designer Hera Arkarakas.

“We felt Canada Women’s Foundation was a great start for us because of how we want to empower women to follow their dreams,” Arkarakas said. “I do a lot of talks in the stores we work with and I try to make them empowering. By working with the foundation, we want to spread this message across the country. For me, starting my own business at the age of 50 after losing my husband was a major challenge, but I got through it. We want to help encourage women to do anything they want in life.”

Hera Jewellery says it will offer its retail partners the opportunity to be part of the promotion next year. In addition to donating part of its sales, the company will also be doing giveaways with the foundation and supporting silent auctions throughout the year.

“Our tag line is ‘Live Life,'” Arkarakas adds. “This motto was very special to my husband and me. Supporting charities like this one is part of living life for us as a family. We have always wanted to give back to people and we are now in a position where we can.”

Arkarakas says other charity-related initiatives are in the works, including supporting Blessing in a Backpack, a non-profit organization that feeds school children in the United States.
