Aviel Elia has been named managing director of the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI). With knowledge of law and security, Elia has supported IDI in various areas for the past five years. Since 2013, he has filled the role of legal advisor and company secretary, and has overseen IDI’s budgets, regulatory processes, and dealings with the government.
“I am very pleased Aviel Elia has agreed to assume the position of IDI managing director,” said Boaz Moldawsky, the institute’s chair. “Aviel is very well-versed in IDI’s mission and activities. He has shown leadership, initiative, and commitment. We are all very pleased he will now be leading the organization.”
Elia is taking over from Eli Avidar, who held the position for 11 years. In a recent release from IDI, the new managing director credited Avidar as a mentor.
“I was fortunate to have worked under Eli Avidar, and I learned a great deal from him,” said Elia. “IDI is in a unique position to work together with all parts of the industry to strengthen the Israeli diamond sector by initiating new projects and providing important assistance and tools to diamantaires, as we have in the past.”
