International Diamond Laboratories (IDL) is setting up diamond grading services in Italy and Saudi Arabia.

The Dubai-based lab already has offices in Dubai, Mumbai, Antwerp, and Istanbul.

The fifth will be based in Valenza, Italy, and will open mid-December. The Saudi lab will open by the end of 2008 in the Jeddah International Centre.

“Our new market entries indicate the diamond industry is maturing and jewellery manufacturers, retailers, and consumers are becoming more aware of the importance of an independent third-party warranty for diamonds and diamond jewellery,” said IDL chief executive officer Peter Meeus. “Our specialized services will help build consumer confidence in the industry.”

Valenza is considered the manufacturing hub of Italy’s high-end jewellery industry and home to designers Bulgari, Roberto Coin, and Pasquale Bruni.

IDL provides diamond traders and jewellers with quality reports/certificates of authentication of polished diamonds and diamond jewellery.
