The Italian Exhibition Group[2] (IEG) was honoured at a special meeting of the United Nations[3] (UN) Economic and Social Council[4] (ECOSOC) on February 21. Through the World Jewellery Confederation[5] (CIBJO), ECOSOC renewed its recognition of the group as a positive force for sustainability and corporate social responsibility (CSR) in the jewellery supply chain.
This was largely due to IEG’s work promoting such values to VicenzaOro attendees. To use a recent example, the January edition of the popular trade show featured a seminar on sustainability in the cultured pearl and precious coral industries.
IEG is the only trade show organizer to be granted this special status by the UN, and first earned it in 2013. Similarly, CIBJO has been the only association in the jewellery industry to hold consultative status with ECOSOC since 2006.
Also at the meeting, Gaetano Cavalieri, president of CIBJO, nominated CIBJO vice-president and IEG managing director Corrado Facco to be the confederation’s main representative to the United Nations.
