Imperial Smelting and Refining Company of Canada in Markham, Ont., will now be known as Umicore Precious Metals Canada Inc.
“While we change the name, we do not want to change our commitment to our customers,” said managing director, Thomas Jansseune.
“It is that commitment that has helped Imperial to be successful in jewellery and industrial applications for almost 100 years now. Imperial’s motto ‘precious relationships, imperial service’ will remain our guiding star. Having said that, I am very grateful to all the customers who have been giving us advice on what we can improve.”
Jansseune says the name change is aimed at emphasizing Imperial’s integration into Umicore’s jewellery and industrial metals business unit, a subgroup of its recycling operations. The U.S. subsidiary changed its name to Umicore Precious Metals USA Inc., a few years ago.
Based in Belgium, Umicore is a global materials technology group focusing on catalysis, energy materials, performance materials, and recycling. Imperial’s name change coincides with the company’s redesigned website: www.umicorepreciousmetals.com[1].
