JB writer named finalist in Saul Bell Awards

Canadian writer and jewellery designer Kate Hubley has been named a finalist in this year’s Saul Bell Design Awards for her ‘Precious Time’ collection. These earrings from the collection feature tourmaline, sapphire, and diamond in 18-karat white and pink gold.

Jewellery Business contributor[2], Kate Hubley[3], has been named a finalist in the 2018 Saul Bell Design Awards[4]. The awards, which honour skill and creativity in jewellery design, will culminate in an awards ceremony on May 20 in Albuquerque, N.M.

Hailing from Pointe-Claire, Qué., Hubley is being recognized in the couture/fine jewellery collection category for her ‘Precious Time’ collection, which reflects the highs, lows, and ultimate calm that come with the passing of time.

Hubley is not the only Canadian to be recognized in the competition. The awards’ nine categories feature five other Canadian designers, including:

Caroline Riviere[5] of Longueuil, Qué., for her piece ‘Koral’ (silver/Argentium silver);
Matthieu Cheminée[6] of Montréal for his pieces ‘Itado’ (silver/Argentium silver) and ‘Soumbedioune’ (hollowware/art objects);
Dawn Teasdale[7] of Winnipeg for her ‘Lava Pearl Series’ collection (fashion/bridge jewellery collection);
Kwabena Abeney of Burnaby, B.C., for her ‘Wave’ collection (fashion/bridge jewellery collection); and
Hoi Yi Lai[8] of Markham, Ont., for her piece ‘Courage’ (emerging jewellery artist 22 years of age or younger).

“It is so exciting when you get that call telling you you’re a finalist. I am over the moon,” Hubley told Jewellery Business. “Again this year, the entries are breathtaking and I am extremely honoured to be among them.
