Jewellery industry insurance provider Jewelers Mutual has collaborated with the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to unveil the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship. This initiative to support the education and development of future gemmologists offers a US$50,000 (approx. C$68,160) scholarship. The award will be disbursed over a period of five years, providing US$10,000 (approx. C$13,630) annually to recipients.
The scholarship is named after former Jewelers Mutual CEO Ron Harder. “We are honoured to establish the Ron Harder Gemological Scholarship with GIA to elevate the love of jewelry and carry forward Ron’s legacy by supporting the next generation of gemmologists,” Scott Murphy, current president and CEO of Jewelers Mutual, says. “This scholarship reflects our shared dedication to nurturing talent and ensuring the industry’s continued growth and success.””
Students enrolled in GIA’s gemmology program can apply for the scholarship. Applicants must submit an essay of 500 to 1000 words outlining how the scholarship would help prepare them for a successful career. The application window opens on April 1 and closes on April 30.
Applications can be submitted through the GIA application portal[1].
