A crisis line created to provide emotional support, counselling, and safety planning to abused women got a helping hand from a Toronto jeweller and a few close friends.
Organized by 18Karat Goldsmiths, the charity auction saw local goldsmiths design 10 pieces—known as the Boldly Collection—based on their interpretation of the word ‘Strength.’
The jewellery was then raffled off, with 100 per cent of the sales going directly to support the 24-hour Assaulted Women’s Helpline.
“Our goal was to not only raise funds, but also raise awareness of the helpline and the countless women and children—many of them neighbours, friends, and family—who rely on the essential services of the helpline,” said Vanessa Laurin, event organizer and director of marketing at 18Karat Goldsmiths.
In addition to being a charity auction, the Boldly Collection was also a design competition. Best in Show (first place) and Best in Design (second place) honours were awarded to Gillian Batcher of Pash Jewellery and Meredith Robb, respectively.
“As artists, we have the ability to reach people on a level that goes beyond words,” Robb said. “Knowing that we can use our passion, our craft, and our skill to benefit the members of our community is by far the most satisfying feeling.”
