A security guard stopped an attempted robbery at Burlington Centre Mall, Ont., on the afternoon of June 7 after confronting four armed suspects, according to Halton Regional Police. As reported by InsideHalton.com, the incident occurred around 4:40 p.m. when four men dressed in black clothing, masks, and gloves entered the mall. The group caught the attention of a security guard as they approached Peoples Jewellers while carrying hammers.
Police say the guard stepped in, prompting the suspects to flee. The security guard apprehended one suspect, while the other three escaped in a white, newer-model Honda Civic. No one was injured, and nothing was stolen.
The arrested suspect—an 18-year-old with no fixed address—was taken into custody by police and charged with attempted robbery, disguise with intent, and assault with a weapon.
According to InsideHalton.com, investigators have linked the same white Honda Civic to an attempted carjacking in Brampton, Ont., on March 31. In that incident, three suspects attacked a man in a parking lot and demanded his keys and cell phone. The victim resisted, and the suspects fled in the vehicle.
Police continue to search for the three remaining suspects.
