A 341.9-carat Type IIa diamond unearthed at the Karowe mine in Botswana has sold for $20.55 million US.
Lucara Diamond Corp., says the stone was part of a special tender comprising 14 single-stone lots. Totaling 1674 carats, the 14 diamonds sold for $68.71 million (all figures USD).
“This is another amazing result, demonstrating not just the sustainable quality of the diamonds being produced, but also the robustness of the exceptional stone market,” said Lucara’s president and chief executive officer (CEO), William Lamb.
“The sales value achieved for the two large stones demonstrates the quality of the diamonds the south lobe is producing. We will continue to work on optimizing our sales strategy to obtain the best value for these diamonds and for our shareholders.”
Other highlights were:
• 12 diamonds sold for more than $1 million each, including five stones that sold for more than $4 million apiece; and
• a 269.7-carat diamond sold for $16.54 million.
