 | ![]() The sunny skies and desert winds of Tucson, Ariz., played host once again to the 30th annual Gem & Lapidary Dealers Association (GLDA) Gem Show and Jewellery Business was there to take in the action. As the only Canadian jewellery magazine exhibiting at the show, JB got a front-row view to the latest in gemstone and design trends. More than 18,625 buyers—15,243 from the United States and 3382 foreigners—packed the Starr Pass Marriott Resort Hotel and Spa for last week’s show, checking out everything from pearls, tanzanite, and aquamarine to amber, jade, and opal. The ‘cash-and-carry’ extravaganza drew 251 exhibitors from around the globe, many of which travelled from China, India, South America, Australia, and Germany to display their wares. GLDA president Tanna Wyatt says the show’s large base of foreign exhibitors caters to companies who prefer to make their purchases in a one-stop fashion rather than travelling to various fairs.
