The Canadian Gemmological Association (CGA) is celebrating its golden jubilee this year and kicking off the next 50 with a special anniversary conference, logo, and new website.
To commemorate the occasion, CGA’s annual conference in November will carry the theme, ‘Honouring our past, sharing our future.”
Held from Nov. 7 to 9 at Toronto’s Dominion Club, the conference will feature displays and activities to celebrate the milestone anniversary, along with guest speakers such as the Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA’s) chief gemmologist John Koivula, who will deliver the keynote address.
“We are very excited to be celebrating our golden jubilee,” said CGA president Duncan Parker. “This is the celebration of a long and rich history, and the start of a new era for the Canadian Gemmological Association. We are also proud to feature John Koivula as our keynote speaker. Mr. Koivula has been a very long-term supporter of the association, and has contributed to the journal and our educational development for many years.”
Clark McEwen of Gemesis Diamonds, Jack Ogden, CEO of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A), Brad Wilson of Alpine Gems, and other experts will also make presentations.
In addition, the festivities will include the presentation of diplomas and academic awards, along with a live and silent auction.
A ‘liquid ruby’ cocktail reception plays host to a display of rubies from True North Gems’ Greenland properties, to be followed by a gala dinner and dance.
Along with the development of a 50th anniversary logo, a special edition of The Canadian Gemmologist will be published to commemorate the golden jubilee.
