A $10 million-project aimed at supporting women in southern Africa has received celebrity support.

Lupita Nyong’o has been appointed the first-ever global ambassador for De Beers, leading its new campaign, ‘De Beers: Where It Begins.’

Per the partnership, De Beers will work with the Academy Award-winning actor in pursuit of the brand’s ‘Building Forever’ commitment, which aims to engage 10,000 girls in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), support 10,000 women entrepreneurs, and invest at least $10 million across southern Africa to achieve these goals by 2030.

“I’m honoured to be the first global ambassador for De Beers,” Nyong’o says. “My partnership with [the company] allows me to extend my advocacy for women and girls around the world.”
