Global luxury conglomerate LVMH recently expanded its watch selection by acquiring Swiss watchmaker Swiza, known for its ownership of high-end clock and objets d’art manufacturer L’Epée 1839. While specific terms remain undisclosed, it has been confirmed that L’Epée will integrate into LVMH’s watchmaking division, run by Frédéric Arnault. Arnaud Nicolas, CEO and creative director of L’Epée, will retain his role overseeing the company’s operations.

When L’Epée was originally established in Delemont, Switzerland, in 1839, the brand focused solely on the specialized production of watch components and music boxes. Over time, L’Epée expanded its repertoire to include a diverse array of timepieces—beginning with carriage clocks designed for travelling officers and, throughout the 20th century, steadily broadening its range to include a exclusive timepieces.

Today, L’Epée 1839 employs over 80 designers, engineers, watchmakers, and mechanics who collaborate to create exceptional timepieces in-house. As per JCK, The brand has also previously partnered with LVMH-owned Tiffany to produce a distinctive race car clock, marking the reopening of Tiffany’s flagship store in New York City in 2023.

“L’Epee 1839 creations span the ages; from officer’s carriage clocks to space rockets, to the automotive inspirations of the 1950s, its products appeal to a public of enthusiasts for fine mechanics,” Arnault, CEO and chairman of LVMH’s Watches division, says. “I am excited by the untapped creative potential of the various LVMH Group Maisons associated with this exceptional expertise.”
