[1]Canadian company MDL Diamond Merchants has purchased the latest version of DiamondSure, a synthetic diamond detection machine developed by De Beers.
The move comes as concerns continue to grow over the incidence of undisclosed synthetic diamonds entering the stream.
According to MDL chief executive officer (CEO) Isaac Mimar, the machine will be used to verify the natural origin of all diamonds greater than .10 carats.
He added this will help increase the transparency in the chain of custody of ownership throughout the company’s distribution channel.
