If you’re wondering what’s on trend for cuffs this season, you may want to look for the winning design of a new competition open to students at George Brown College’s jewellery arts program.
Online fine jewellery company, Mejuri, has partnered with the Toronto school to launch a design challenge in support of emerging Canadian talent.
The ‘Everyday Cuff Design’ challenge asks students to follow Spring/Summer 2014 trends and design a gold-plated silver cuff with pearls for everyday wear. The competition runs throughout February and the public is invited to vote from Feb. 10 to 17.
The winning design will be produced and sold on mejuri.com in the spring. The winner will be announced at the end of February. He or she will receive their design, as well as ongoing royalties and marketing from Mejuri.
“George Brown believes industry partnerships are vital to providing practical, real-life learning experience for our students’ education,” said Wing-Ki Chan, George Brown’s jewellery studies program co-ordinator.
Designs will be judged based on their online popularity, technical detail, and design concept as it relates to current fashion trends.
Pink Tartan founder and creative designer, Kimberly Newport-Mimran, and gemmologist, Ken McGrath, will serve as judges.
“We are delighted to collaborate with George Brown College, Kimberly Newport-Mimran, and Ken McGrath to help emerging designers get introduced to the industry,” said Mejuri president and co-founder, Noura Sakkijha.
“We believe this is a great opportunity for new talent to gain exposure to the industry and receive expert feedback.”
