The Montebi Group has bought Montreal-based Rodania Canada in a deal that re-unites the brand on a global basis. “We are happy to re-create one global Rodania brand today, as it used to be in the not-that-distant past,” said Didier Bennert, chief executive officer (CEO) of the Montebi Group.

“This will help us strengthen our collection, improve the coherence of our approach, and accelerate our efforts to further grow Rodania globally.”

Rodania Canada was established in 1947 after the Swiss watch brand expanded globally through the establishment of offices in countries around the world. In the early 1980s, Rodania’s founder sold the company to two of his directors. Manfred Aebi bought Rodania Marketing AG and focused his efforts on the European market, while Peter Fuhrer acquired the rights to develop and commercialize Rodania watches in Canada and North America.

In 2007, Aebi and his family sold Montebi—their company and the owner of Rodania Marketing AG—to private investors. Rodania Canada continued doing business with Montebi, acquiring most of its stock from the company.

“The Rodania brand still has a large growth potential in this country,” said Fuhrer, who remains managing director of Rodania Canada. “By becoming part of the Montebi Group and with access to their marketing expertise, this new set-up will provide new opportunities and further establish Rodania as one of the leading Swiss watch brands in Canada.”
