New names have been added to the list of panelists being featured at Gemological Institute of America’s (GIA’s) Jewelry Career Fair.

Held on Oct. 21 at GIA’s world headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif., the fair sees industry members, job seekers, and recruiters gathering to network and make career connections.

“Given the current economic climate, we think this year’s career fair is more important and relevant than ever,” said Kathryn Kimmel, GIA vice-president, chief marketing officer (CMO), and co-founder of the GIA Career Fair. “Whether it’s an established professional looking to enhance his or her career, or those seeking insight and guidance about entering the field, career fair can be a valuable vehicle for reaching one’s goals.”

In addition to an agenda that includes onsite recruiting, one-on-one career coaching, classroom demonstrations, and gem and jewellery exhibits, two new panels have been added to the event roster.

‘From Design to Finish’ features high-end jewellery designers like Erica Courtney, Alishan Halebian, and Katey Brunini who will share their stories of success and offer tips to aspiring designers. Peggy Jo Donahue, director of public affairs for MJSA, will moderate the panel.

At ‘Creative Careers,’ attendees will hear how panelists have turned their interests into unusual careers in the gem and jewellery industry. Moderated by Mark Smelzer, publisher of JCK magazine and JCKonline.com[1], the panel includes:
• Douglas Hucker, chief executive officer (CEO) of the American Gem Trade Association (AGTA);
• Amy Helein, salvage specialist for Jewelers Mutual;
• Steve Mindel, managing partner, head of business transactions department at Feinberg, Mindel, Brandt & Klein, LLP; and
• Chris George, store manager for Van Cleef & Arpels.

The event runs from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. and registration is free.
