A pair of diamond-set, natural pearl earrings estimated at $300,000 to $350,000 is set to go on the auction block at the Dupuis Fine Jewellery Auctioneers Spring Sale next month.
Held at Toronto’s Windsor Arms Hotel’s Courtyard Café on June 14, the auction also features an array of items from Cartier, Bulgari, and Rolex.
More than 200 hopeful buyers, along with 200-plus online, phone, and absentee bidders, are expected to take in the auction, which features more than 600 pieces of rare and one-of-a-kind antique and modern jewellery.
“A common misconception is such events are for a privileged few, but Dupuis’ auction includes many items that are quite affordable,” said its founder, Ron Dupuis. “Price estimates range from less than $1000 up to $300,000, and include many modern pieces that can be bought for substantially below the retail price.”
Other highlights include:
• a 4.99-carat, emerald-cut diamond and platinum ring signed Tiffany & Co., with tapered baguette-cut diamonds (estimated at $130,000 to $160,000);
• an antique tiara mounted with very rare pink conch pearls, natural pearls, and diamonds (estimated at $15,000 to $18,000); and
• a 2.55-carat Burmese ruby and diamond antique ring from the early 19th century mounted in silver and 18-karat gold within a frame of old mine-cut diamonds (estimated at $12,000 to $16,000).
“In my 30 years as an appraiser, I’ve encountered numerous jewels and timepieces that are just remarkable. Some pieces are from private collections that have never been seen by the public,” said Duncan Parker, vice-president and jewellery specialist at Dupuis.
“We are especially interested in the pieces with a great story to tell or are one-of-a kind items with stellar craftsmanship.”
