Former Jewellery Business bench tips columnist Tom Weishaar has picked up a first-place win at Jewelers of America’s (JA’s) CASE Awards.
Designed in collaboration with Craig Underwood and Becki Lamascus of Underwood’s Fine Jewelers in Fayetteville, Ark., the 18-karat yellow gold ring features a one-carat round opaque rose-cut diamond surrounded by 31 diamonds. It took home top honours in the ‘Jewellery $2001 to $5000’ category.
The CASE Awards recognize Jewelers of America retail members who exhibit creativity, artistry, style, and excellence in jewellery design. Many of the winning pieces of the 2014 CASE Awards featured a vintage look with handmade elements, bead settings, and high-quality stones.
“Jewelers of America’s CASE Awards retail design competition is the only national platform that showcases the craft and creativity of independent jewellers,” said JA president and chief executive officer (CEO) David J. Bonaparte.
“We congratulate all the CASE Award entrants, as they exemplify the talent and fine craftsmanship found in Jewelers of America-member stores nationwide.”
A panel of Jewelers of America’s in-house professionals and four industry experts judged the contest. The judges included Marc Adwar, Adwar Casting; Cindy Edelstein, Jewelers Resource Bureau; Michelle Graff, editor-in-chief of National Jeweler; and Malak Atut, ZAIKEN Jewelry.
