PersonaGirl helping to build girl’s self-confidence

The Canadian Women’s Foundation is working to empower girls by improving self-confidence, and it’s partnering up with bead brand, PersonaGirl, to do that.

A new design contest is inviting Canadians ages 12 to 18 to create a design for a new Girls’ Fund bead that will be introduced into a 2013 PersonaGirl collection.

A portion of the proceeds from the winning design will go toward the Canadian Women’s Foundation Girls’ Fund to pay for important girls’ programs across Canada. In addition, the winning design will be featured in Canada’s Vervegirl magazine. The contest launched yesterday, the first International Day of the Girl.

The foundation is investing almost $9 million in 28 programs over the next four years that aim to help girls stay safe, improve their mental health, challenge stereotypes, and successfully navigate adolescence.

In Canada, girls ages 13 to 15 are at the highest risk of sexual assault. As girls approach their teens, their self-confidence plummets and rates of depression soar.

A panel of judges will review the entries. The top five entrants will each receive a PersonaGirl bracelet valued at $200, and be entered into a public voting process to select the winning design.

To enter, go to Facebook.com/personaworld. The contest is open until Nov. 29, with voting to begin in December.

PersonaGirl is a new bead jewellery brand from First Jewelry Ltd. For more information on the foundation, visit www.canadianwomen.org.
