An extremely rare 3.15-carat fancy reddish-orange diamond is one of the highlights of Christie’s upcoming Magnificent Jewels auction.

Estimated at $700,000 to $1.2 million, the circular-cut diamond is the largest of its kind ever graded at the Gemological Institute of America (GIA), and the largest to be on the auction block.

It joins a three-stone emerald ring, a 50-carat D-colour diamond ring by Graff, and more than 300 other lots.

“Since the start of 2012, this has proven to be a vibrant year of strong prices for top-quality diamonds, coloured gemstones, natural pearls, and signed jewels at auction,” said Rahul Kadakia, head of jewellery for Christie’s Americas and Switzerland.

“Christie’s New York is pleased to present this expanded selection of fine jewellery that truly offers something for every client, whether your thoughts are on finding a special gift for the holidays, or acquiring a great investment-quality diamond for the long-term.”

The auction—which is expected to realize $25 million—will be held Dec. 10 in New York.
