JCK Toronto has been put on hold, says Reed Exhibitions, the show’s organizer.
The announcement comes just weeks after the 2012 edition, at which exhibitors complained of weak retailer traffic.
“At this time, we have made the decision to postpone JCK Toronto,” said John Tierney, the show’s event director. “The Canadian marketplace represents an important sector to the jewellery industry and to the JCK brand. We have many opportunities throughout the year to help you continue to reach your buyers and prospects that are most important for your business.”
In a statement to exhibitors, Tierney said JCK will continue to work with the Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) to identify and implement programs that will serve Canadian manufacturers and retailers exhibiting and attending JCK Las Vegas.
CJA president and chief executive officer (CEO) David Ritter said he will be speaking with Reed in the next few weeks to discuss new options and opportunities.
“It was disappointing to hear the Toronto show has been postponed indefinitely, but it was not a total surprise,” Ritter tells Jewellery Business. “The show’s buyer and exhibitor attendance has been declining for several years, as many attend more of the larger international shows. This will leave a void for the Canadian jewellery industry to present their products to many long-time customers.”
