A move away from ventures with advertising revenue models and a $4.1-billion acquisition are part of media giant Reed Elsevier’s plan to sell its Reed Business Information (RBI) publishing unit.

The company says the sale will be used to finance its purchase of Atlanta-based ChoicePoint, which provides the insurance sector with data and analytics.

RBI publishes hundreds of business-to-business publications, webzines, directories, and web portals, including Jewelers’ Circular Keystone (JCK), JCKstyle, JCKLuxury, JCKonline.com, JCK India, JCK’s Annual Jewelers’ Directory, and JCK’s Look Book.

Reed Elsevier says it will continue to own Reed Exhibitions, which produces more than 470 events worldwide, including JCK Toronto, JCK Las Vegas, Luxury Bermuda, and Luxury by JCK and Premiere.
