One of the industry’s premier jewellery schools is turning the big 3-0.
Founded and directed by master goldsmith and award-winning jewellery designer Alan Revere, the Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts has seen students from around the world pass through its doors, producing its share of master jewellers.
Revere says a lack of local jewellery education spurred him to start the school.
“When I opened the Revere Academy, I had no idea where it was headed,” he recalls. “I had just returned from rigorous jewellery training in Germany. When I met jewellers here and spoke with them, I quickly learned there was a need for professional jewellery training here in San Francisco.”
The school offers dozens of classes, many of which have been taught over the years by leading professional jewellers. In addition to teaching, guest instructors Michael Good, Tim McCreight, John Cogswell, Jean Stark, Doug Zaruba, and Canadian master goldsmith Charles Lewton-Brain have participated in the academy’s Master’s Symposium. German master gem designer Bernd Munsteiner and jewellery designer David Yurman have also taught at Revere, which is located in San Francisco’s historic jewellery centre, the Phelan Building.
Revere says he is proud of his student’s achievements.
“I am fortunate,” he says. “I get letters all the time from students whose lives I have touched. Their thanks reminds me I have received a priceless gift. I can’t think of a more fulfilling occupation than sharing my passion and skills with others and helping people achieve their dreams.”
