Entitled Argyle Ava, this .50-carat fancy purplish red round stone is part of Rio Tinto’s 2010 tender.

A round brilliant fancy vivid purplish pink stone leads Rio Tinto’s 2010 tender of Argyle diamonds.

The 2.02-carat Argyle Mystra is one of 55 diamonds to go on the block. Other stones of note are the Argyle Iris—a 1.43-carat fancy purplish red square-shaped diamond—whose name is inspired by Greek mythology, while a .50-carat fancy purplish red round stone named Argyle Ava is meant to represent heaven on Earth.

Tender viewings have already been held in Perth, Australia, and Hong Kong. Shanghai and New York City are next, with viewings set for Sept. 27 and Oct. 12 to 17, respectively. For the first time in its history, the tender was held in mainland China on Sept. 27.

“We are delighted to showcase this beautiful collection to the world,” said Josephine Archer, business manager for Argyle Pink Diamonds. “The colour saturation across this year’s collection has set a new benchmark with many more ‘vivid’ pinks than previous years.”
