The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has named Connecticut-based STR Responsible Sourcing as its first accredited auditor. The firm will verify conformance among RJC members to the council’s Code of Practices (COP) for ethical sourcing of gold, diamonds, and platinum group metals.

STR Responsible Sourcing is the first firm to be accredited as an auditor for the Responsible Jewellery Council’s (RJC’s) certification of members’ business practices.

The company is the accredited auditor for several organizations outside the jewellery industry, with 245 auditors working in 30 countries. It works with more than 6000 manufacturers, importers, raw materials suppliers, and retailers.

“We anticipate that STR Responsible Sourcing will be the first of many accredited auditors offering competitive professional services to RJC members,” said Michael Rae, the council’s chief executive officer (CEO). “RJC has received a number of auditor accreditation applications from other firms and these are currently being assessed under the RJC’s accreditation process. RJC will announce additional accredited auditing firms in the coming weeks.” The announcement came at the recent JCK trade show in Las Vegas.

RJC members commission their own third-party certification audits to verify conformance to the group’s Code of Practices (COP). A list of accredited auditors will be posted on the council’s website, allowing members to choose an auditor most suitable to their business and location.

RJC certification is open to all levels of the gold, diamond, and platinum group metals supply chain, from mine to retail, as well as related trade organizations.
