RJC calls for feedback on revisions

The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is calling for stakeholder feedback on a final draft of the proposed revisions of its Code of Practices (COP) and draft revised standards guidance.

The request comes following the second comment period, which the council says provided valuable feedback.

This time, the council is looking for comment on a restructuring of the COP, which includes new section titles aimed to better communicate content and group provisions by themes (e.g. responsible supply chains and responsible mining sector).

Other changes include:

• aligning requirements to the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights;

• new provisions for grading and appraisal;

• provenance claims;

• sourcing from conflict-affected areas; and

• sourcing from artisanal and small-scale mining.

All RJC members—from mine to retail—must achieve certification against the COP within two years of joining.

In addition, chapters pertaining to the standards guidance have been revised to provide more detailed implementation support for businesses, including those in key regions like India.

The public comment period remains open until Aug. 2. To access the consultation documents, please visit:
