The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) has welcomed the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) to its ranks of certified members.
The news comes as the laboratory gets set to celebrate a milestone anniversary.
“The RJC certification epitomizes GIA’s 80-year legacy of establishing and maintaining industry standards worldwide,” said Donna Baker, president and chief executive officer (CEO) of GIA. “Both the RJC and GIA share the commitment to safeguarding the public trust in gems and jewellery—GIA through laboratory services, education programs, research developments, and disclosure; and the RJC in supporting standards of conduct that include human rights, social responsibility, and environmental performance.”
GIA was audited by UL Responsible Sourcing (STR) against RJC’s member certification system.
In related news, RJC also announced luxury house Bulgari as the first Italian member to attain certification.
“RJC warmly congratulates Bulgari on its certification,” said RJC CEO Michael Rae. “The successful verification assessment was conducted by Arnaud Herrmann from Ernst & Young, one of the independent third-party auditing firms accredited to the RJC’s member certification system. Bulgari now occupies a very special position to act as a role model within the Italian jewellery industry.”
Bulgari CEO Francesco Trapani said the company has always embraced environmentally and socially responsible behaviour.
“This certification is an important acknowledgement of our constant commitment and encourages us to further surpass ourselves in virtuous practices of integrity and transparency towards our clientele and stakeholders,” he added.
