The Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) voted last month to include platinum group metals (PGMs) as part of its certification system.
At its annual general meeting last month, the council voted to amend its memorandum of association and adopt new articles, expanding its scope beyond the third-party certification of members who produce goods using gold and diamonds. The 230-member group promotes ethical, human rights, and social and environmental practices from mine to retail.
“I profoundly thank all those many members who participated in the meetings through their attendance or by lodging proxies,” said RJC chief executive officer (CEO) Michael Rae.
The general meeting also saw the re-election of Matt Runci as its chair, John Hall as its vice-chair, and Mark Jenkins as RJC’s secretary. Yedwa Simelane, Charles Bonas, Donna Baker, Ruth Batson, and Philippe Leopold-Metzger were also appointed to the board of directors.
