Responsible Jewellery Council (RJC) is restructuring itself, cancelling the contract of its chief executive officer (CEO) after only eight months.
Instead, RJC will introduce the role of executive director, which it says is in line with the management structure of similar organizations.Â
Long-serving chief operations officer (COO) Catherine Sproule will work alongside the executive director to provide continuity.
The announcement comes on the heels of recent turnover after Fiona Solomon, RJC’s director of standards development resigned and it lost Marieke Van Der Mijn, its certification and impacts manager.
The group says the new management structure also includes an RJC India manager, as it works to further establish itself in that country, a key player in the jewellery pipeline. In fact, RJC’s annual general meeting is set for April 13 in Mumbai following a meeting of its standards committee.
Last July, RJC appointed Ashish Deo as its CEO, replacing Sproule who was interim CEO at the time after Michael Rae stepped down at the end of 2013 to pursue interests closer to home in Australia. Deo had served previously as commercial director for the Fairtrade Foundation.
