Higher ore processed at the Diavik Mine yielded 1.79 million carats in the second quarter of 2011.
Harry Winston Diamond Corp., which owns a 40 per cent interest in the mine, says an increase of four per cent in processed ore (i.e. half a million tonnes) produced 11 per cent more carats than in the same period in 2010. The company also said Diavik yielded 3.14 million carats from one million tonnes of ore in the first six months of this year.
Full-year forecasts for 2011 indicate production will remain at 6.9 million carats, with the second half expected to yield higher results due to sub-level retreat mining of A-154 South. Sub-level retreat underground mining is a lower-cost and higher-velocity underground mining method.
