Police have charged two adults and four youths following a robbery at a jewellery store in Markham, Ont. The suspects entered the store in the afternoon, using hammers to smash display cases and steal merchandise.

As officers approached the scene, a white Honda Civic, believed to be connected to the suspects, rear-ended another vehicle at McCowan Road and Highway 7. The suspects in the Civic fled on foot, leading police to engage in a brief foot pursuit.

Four suspects were quickly apprehended, while two others were found hiding in a nearby food establishment’s washroom. The occupants of the vehicle that had been rear-ended sustained minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.

The Honda Civic involved in the incident had previously been reported stolen in Toronto. A beige SUV is also believed to be connected to the robbery, possibly as a second suspect vehicle involved in the crime.

At the time of the arrests, several of the individuals were already out on release orders. The arrested suspects include two 16-year-old males, a 15-year-old male, 19-year-old Toronto resident Trevone Ball-Barnes, and 19-year-old Mississauga resident Remario Murdock.

Police are actively searching for at least six additional male suspects. Four of these individuals are thought to have directly participated in the robbery, while the others may have acted as getaway drivers.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the relevant authorities.
