Montreal-based Sothil has acquired the Canadian distribution rights for AVI-8.
Chris Iliopoulos, owner of Sothil, says consumers are fascinated by aviation and look to celebrate that in their choice of timepieces.
“Aviation watches are of great interest for consumers,” he said. “Men have always been interested in adventure and flying.”
AVI-8 takes its inspiration from the machines of some of the most significant periods in aviation history, such as the Lancaster, a British four-engine Second World War heavy bomber designed and built for the Royal Air Force (RAF).
According to Iliopoulos, AVI-8 is helping to build its brand by commissioning well-known Instagram influencers to feed pictures of various watches with a lifestyle and aviation feel to millions of followers. In addition, AVI-8 will also be featured in aviation magazines and consumer fashion publications, such as GQ and Esquire.
“The brand is also teaming up with well-known air force teams to help design limited-edition watches,” he added.
