Former Canadian ambassador to the United Nations Robert Fowler was honoured by the South African government for his role in establishing the Kimberley Process (KP).

The tribute was part of a ceremony at the 10th anniversary KP intersessional meeting, which also saw outgoing World Diamond Council (WDC) president Eli Izhakoff presented with an award for his contribution in creating the diamond certification system 13 years ago.

Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, South Africa’s former deputy president and former minister of minerals and energy, was also honoured for her role in the KP’s development.
