Stornoway Diamond Corp. has acquired new claims in northern Quebec, following the discovery of potentially diamondiferous kimberlites.
Wholly owned by Stornoway, the claims cover an area of 49,350 ha (121,946 acres) and have been designated the ‘Aeon Project.’ They are located 300 km north of the company’s flagship property, the Renard Diamond Project, and approximately 100 km north of a network of Hydro-Quebec power stations located along the all-season Trans-Taiga Highway.
Sampling at Aeon confirmed the potential for multiple kimberlites or clusters within two 10 km x 10-km areas. According to Stornoway, kimberlite indicator mineral grain counts in collected samples appear to be comparable to those associated with Renard’s discovery.
The company expects to conduct a high-resolution airborne geophysical survey this year, along with detailed till sampling and follow-up prospecting on high-priority targets.
Stornoway has budgeted $5.6 million for diamond exploration at Canadian targets. The Aeon project represents about $1.1 million.
The Ministre des Ressources Naturelles et de la Faune officially issued the claim certificates to Stornoway earlier this month after receiving an application in April.
