Despite lower-than-average temperatures, Stornoway Diamond Corp., has poured concrete for what will be the Renard diamond project’s process plant.
The work on the plant represents a critical step for the project, which is expected to process 2.2 million tonnes of kimberlite annually when it goes into full production by the summer of 2017.
Specialized concrete work for the building’s foundation is expected to continue through the spring and early summer before structural steel is put in place in June.
The plant is scheduled to be completed and heated by the fourth quarter of this year, allowing the installation of temperature-sensitive crushing and recovery circuits through the first half of 2016.
