[1]Stuller is revamping its 2016 Bench Jeweler Workshop itinerary to include a new, live competition right on the showroom floor.
Dubbed Battle of the Benches Competition, the contest will be held at the company’s headquarters in Lafayette, La., from April 1 to 3.
“We’ve taken this year’s event to a new level,” says Tammy Kidder, vice-president of merchandising. “Not only is Workshop a great opportunity for jewellers from around the country to come together to share tips and learn from each other and industry professionals, but we’re also adding some friendly competition to the mix.”
A panel of experts will choose four bench jewellers from a pool of qualified candidates to compete in the first-ever competition. The company will cover travel expenses of up to $500 for each of the four selected bench jewellers and provide complimentary registration and lodging during the event. A fifth alternate bench jeweller will be chosen prior to the start of Workshop.
“It’s a real-time design contest that will be held on the Workshop floor,” Kidder adds. “Contestants will receive the exact same materials, tools, guidelines, and challenges.”
The two-day event also plays host to several hands-on demonstrations and educational seminars including:
• diamond market (new);
• digital technology (new);
• visual merchandising (new);
• jewelry photography (new);
• platinum (updated); and
• polishing and plating (updated).
