A call for entries has been issued for the 2018 Lewton-Brain Foldform Competition. Metal artists from across the world can put their skills to the test in this annual contest, which invites submissions such as jewellery, sculpture, architecture, and functional objects that significantly rely on the foldforming technique.

Each artist may submit up to three pieces (in the form of high-resolution photographs) by September 22. Entries will be assessed by a jury composed of:

  • Canadian artist and goldsmith Charles Lewton-Brain;
  • Merle White, editor-in-chief of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist magazine; and
  • Brigitte Martin, editor at large of American Craft magazine and executive director of the Furniture Society.

The contest is open to entrants worldwide, with last year’s edition drawing submissions from Canada, the United States, England, Scotland, Chile, Thailand, Iran, Italy, and Sweden.

The winners will be announced online on October 22, and will receive prizes including Rio Grande gift certificates, a copy of Lewton-Brain’s foldforming CD, and (for the first-place or Innovation Award winner) a set of three paper hammers.
