The Swatch Group recorded its third-best year in sales in 2009, due to an upturn in the second half of the year.
A significant rebound in the second half of 2009 helped the Swatch Group push past lower sales in the earlier part of the year, the company says.

Despite a 6.3 per cent decrease in annual gross sales, the Swiss watch producer said 2009 was the third-best year in its history. The company also credits strong sales in December as helping to compensate for slower sales earlier in the year, which it attributes to order cancellations and changes in product mix among its dealers.

Overall, Swatch says it outperformed the Swiss Watch Federation’s export sales for the year, with a decrease of only 5.5 per cent.

The company says Omega’s participation in the Vancouver Winter Olympics as official timekeeper will be one of the highlights of the year. New product development among many Swatch brands, as well as new production systems in Switzerland, are also anticipated to make a positive impact across the board.
