TD and Zale sign private credit card deal

Peoples Jewellers and Mappins customers will soon be able to purchase jewellery using a private label credit card, now that Zale Corp., has selected TD Retail Card Services to administer its program.

The five-year agreement comes into effect on July 1 and calls for TD’s New Jersey-based business unit to take over from Citi Cards Canada, which terminates its agreement with Zale on June 30.

TD says it will oversee the entire private label credit card program, which will be branded under the Peoples Jewellers and Mappins names. Zale operates 147 Peoples Jewellers and 69 Mappins stores in Canada.

Consumers can use the cards at either retail chain. The program offers interest-free and no-payment options.
