The Jewelry Symposium (TJS)—an annual international industry event focusing on the advancement of jewellery manufacturing technology hosted at the Detroit Marriot Troy, Mich., from May 18 to 21, 2024—announced four scholarship awardees.
Sponsored by TJS supporters C&J Jewellery, Mano Acero Jewellery, and TechForm Advanced Casting, the four scholarships will include the cost of registering for the symposium, accommodations for three nights at the location, meals provided by TJS, along with a book, a USB drive containing all presentations, and an official certificate of attendance.
The 2024 TJS scholarship awardees are:
- Kat Gozy, jewellery design student at the North Bennett Street School
- Xiaoya Ma, jewellery design student at F.I.T.
- Marilena Marchetti, senior jewellery design student at F.I.T.
- Jackie Langevin, client services repair coordinator at Springer’s Jewelers, Bath, ME.
Linus Drogs, TJS chairman of board, says, “We are excited to meet these young jewellery professionals and are honoured to share information with them at the upcoming symposium in May. Our industry is facing a serious shortage of young and skilled talent, so we welcome the younger generation with open arms, from every sector of the business.”
“There are never adequate words to describe how great the impact is for students new to jewellery studies to be able to see, absorb, and actually converse with the greats of the jewellery industry on a one-to-one basis,” Michael Coan, chair emeritus of the F.I.T jewellery department, commented. “I am happy that our students will be able to concentrate all their energies in a supportive artistic environment; it can be truly life changing.”
