The King’s ‘lost’ jewellery to go under the hammer

Fans of Elvis Presley will soon have their shot at picking up a piece from the rock ‘n roll icon’s personal jewellery collection.

Bids are underway for GWS Auctions’ ‘The Lost Jewelry Collection of Elvis Presley and Colonel Tom Parker.’ The 193-piece showcase features rings, chains, watches, and other memorabilia once owned by Elvis.

Among the lot’s most sought-after jewellery pieces is Elvis’ engraved Omega De Ville quartz watch[2] (which, at press time, has 25 bids), as well as several rings, including a 14-karat yellow gold lapis and diamond ring[3], a 10-karat yellow gold blue star sapphire ring[4], and a 10-karat yellow gold ruby and emerald ‘Lion Head’ ring[5].

Several of the pieces were gifted by Elvis to close friends and fellow musicians. In many cases, the King would remove a ring from his own finger and insist the recipient take it.

“He took it off and handed it to me,” says Elvis’ good friend and personal bodyguard, Sam Thompson, of receiving the Lion Head ring in 1977. “I put it on my finger, and he told me to keep it.”
