Amid the swanky ambiance of a Toronto hot spot and spotlight-lite jewellery displays, Thomas Sabo unveiled its watch collection to the Canadian market.
Coming this spring, the 60-piece line mirrors the company’s sterling silver jewellery collection and features dials with skulls, lily crosses, Chinese dragons, and other Thomas Sabo design elements.
Bernd Stadlwieser, the company’s chief executive officer, says he expects to see the line in 100 points of sale across Canada. The German company already offers its watch line in Europe and Asia, but now, it has Canada in its sight.
“We think we can develop a nice market here,” Stadlwieser told Jewellery Business at the line’s launch at the Ultra Supper Club. “We see watches not as an instrument to tell time, but rather as a fashion accessory.” He said the current economic conditions did not factor into the decision to launch the line in a new market.
“We’re quite lucky that even in this market, sales are still good,” he added.
Philippe Hazan, chief executive officer of TSMI Ltd, the line’s Canadian distributor, says creating the watch line was a natural progression for the fashion jewellery company.
“Watches are fashion statements more than they are timepieces.”
The watches are designed with stainless steel or ceramic and feature leather or silicon rubber straps.
